I saw Doc flatpick in NYC last year. At 85, the man hasn't even lost a stroke on his perfectly clean runs. Just a damn genius guitar player; he's to guitar what Scruggs was to banjo, invented a style that became the standard.
His work in the 70s holds up really well, especially featuring his son, Merle Watson (who tragically passed in a tractor accident in 1985)(Merlefest would begin three years later). All I will say else is go see Doc pick by any means possible.
